Ed graduated from Seaside High School in 1962. He received a degree in Math from the University of Oregon, and additional degrees in Meteorology and Space Physics from the University of Utah. He spent twenty-three years in the Air Force working with weather modeling/forecasting, satellite remote sensing, and satellite image processing. Beth graduated from Astoria High School in 1963. She attended the University of Oregon, and worked in the medical field and law enforcement.

- This is a merit based 4 year scholarship, based on grades, courses taken, test scores, school activities, and work/community activities.
- For a student intending to major in hard sciences: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Meteorology/Oceanography, Engineering, Pre-medical/Dental or Nursing (not environmental science, environmental engineering, or computer programming).
- This scholarship is renewable for 3 more years (4 years total). To be eligible for renewal you must maintain status as a full time student and a 3.0 GPA (or better) and recipient must provide annual updates of current transcripts.
